Addo and Awinbono to fight in US April 14

Two Ghanaian boxers, Emmanuel Addo and Thomas Awinbono are expected to leave Ghana by the end of this month for fights in the USA on April 14 that could enhance their future prospects in the sport.

Awinbono (20-4-1, 16 KOs) is billed to face Christopher Fitzpatrick alias The Irish Ghost (15-1, 6 KOs) over ten rounds at the Township, South Carolina with Emmanuel Addo (11-1-1, 9 KOs) also fighting Emmanuel Lucero (26-9, 14 KOs) in an international super featherweight contest on the same bill.

The two boxers have been inactive for sometime due to a lack of promotions in the country. They have therefore both targeted this fights coming up as the breakthrough needed to announce themselves to the world.

“My dream to become a world champion is still very much alive so I thank God for this opportunity.

"I will not disappoint my fan and I ask Ghanaians to also remember me in their prayers. I see this as the first step on my journey to world championship glory,” Addo told ALL SPORTS.

Awinbono added: “I thank my manager and everybody in my camp for working hard to get me opportunity.

"I’m not going to waste it but grab it with both fists. The US is definitely the Mecca of boxing so I’m very determined to win big so I can get more opportunities like this.”
