The Adehyie Keep Fit Club based at Adweso, near Koforidua, has donated food items and clothing valued at hundreds of Ghana Cedis to the inmates of the Koforidua Prisons.

The gift including bags of sugar and Gari, toothbrushes, sandals and quantities of second-hand clothing is to support their upkeep.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), after the donation, Mr Siaw Ankomah, leader of the club said, the donation forms part of the clubs intention to touch the lives of the inmates on the Valentine’s Day, which was observed worldwide last Sunday.

He said such occasions, provide an opportunity for charitable organizations to reach out to such people in the society some of whom are in prison just by accident.

Mr Ankomah pledged the club's readiness to repeat the gesture in subsequent occasions and was upbeat that later donations would be more substantial.

Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Comfort Adjei Kwashie, Welfare Officer at the Koforidua Prisons, who received the items on behalf of the inmates, thanked the club for its benevolence and said the items would go a long way to make life better for the inmates.
