Adomah rates Jonathan Kodjia as best forward ahead of Jordan Ayew

Ghana winger Albert Adomah has backed Villa team-mate Jonathan Kodjia to continue his scoring streak after hailing the striker as the best in the Championship.

Kodjia has netted five goals in five goals as Villa have begun to climb the division under new boss Steve Bruce, including a brace in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Blackburn.

Interestingly, Adomah did not mention his Ghanaian teammate Jordan Ayew as a striker given that he has been utilised as a right winger in Villa’s games this season.

And Adomah said: “I am biased but for me, he (Kodjia) is the best in the league.

“Jonathan is a great striker. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve got other good strikers such as Gabby (Agbonlahor) and Rudy (Gestede).

“All the strikers we’ve got at the club at the moment are great, as is Jonathan. That’s what we need – strikers scoring goals – and I don’t mind which ones score. I’m really pleased for Jonathan and I hope he keeps it up because that will help the team.”

Kodjia joined Villa from Bristol City in a deal which could eventually rise to a Championship-record £15million. Adomah believes the 27-year-old’s down-to-earth nature has left him unaffected by the price tag.

“He is doing his job as though there is no price tag on him – that’s good for him because he is grounded and humble,” he said.

“At the moment everything is going well for him and he just has to keep it up. It (the price tag) doesn’t bother him. He is still scoring goals and that’s what you need as a striker.

“He’s doing his job and that’s good for the team – he just has to keep on scoring. If he scores 20 goals and we get promoted then great.”

Saturday’s win meant Villa have taken 11 points from five games since Bruce took charge and Adomah added: “It is all about the willingness to win games and that is what we have got to have if we want to win promotion.”
