As the Ghana Premier League begin to take shape, some interesting facts have been revealed.
Aduana Stars teenager, Gideon Obeng Kyeremeh has become the youngest player ever to have featured in the Ghanaian topflight.
Born on December 14, 2003, Obeng Kyeremeh made his Premier League debut at 13 years, 10 months and 22 days on November 6, 2017 when he came on for Richard Mpong in the Aduana Stars vs Berekum Chelsea GHPL Week
The teenager was also brought on in Aduana’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Accra Hearts of Oak in Accra last season.
A former student of TI Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi, ‘Lambert’, as he is affectionately called, featured for the school team in the 2014 and 2015 Inter Schools Soccer Boys.
In an interview with SportsObama.com, the youngster said he was unaware of the enviable feat as the youngest player to feature in the Ghana Premier League, insisting he only enjoy playing football.
“I don’t know anything about the record”, Obeng told SportsObama.com
The teenager came on to play for Aduana Stars in the League match against Inter Allies last Sunday “I have been enjoying the experience of playing for one of the biggest teams in Ghana and to share a dressing room with these big players in the league”,
“At first, I was a bit nervous but after staying with the team for over a year, things have become normal”.
A pacey right winger, Obeng was scouted by Aduana Stars when he played against the Dormaa-based club for Berekum Young Arsenals in pre-season friendly.
After impressing in that game, coach Yusif Abubakar expressed interest in the lad and informed the Aduana Stars management to have him signed.
Abuabakar said “he is a very talented and skillful player for his age”.
“I knew he was that young but looked determined and brave. I played him even in the Aduana against Hearts that we drew 3-3 and he was the smallest on the pitch”.
On record, the winger became the youngest Ghana Premier League player in 2017 and will continue to hold this for a long number years. At 13 years and 10 months.
