Ghana Premier League side, Aduana Stars has confirmed receiving $5,000 from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as part of the TV rights sponsorship deal from pay-tv operators StarTimes.
The Ghana Football Association on Monday issued cheques out to the clubs.
The Dormaa-based club is the first to confirm receiving the money from the GFA.
The Public Relations Oficcer,Evans Oppong in an interview said"Yes Aduana Stars have received $5000 from the FA. The money is not enough because even we (Aduana) spend more than $ 5000 in a single match"
“Due to COVID-19, football activities have been suspended and clubs are suffering because of financial hardship. The GFA decided to support the clubs from the StarTimes money".
He added that the team was expecting more than half of the sponsorship money from the FA.
"Initially we were expecting half of the money from the STARTIMES MONEY but we couldn't get even 20%. We can't complain much, they (FA) have promised to release the rest.We are asking them to speed up their process so we can get the remaining balance".
