Africa Hockey Championship: Ghana 2-2 Nigeria

Pretoria, Oct. 8, GNA - The male national hockey team, the Black Sticks, drew 2-2 with Nigeria while South Africa thrashed Namibia 12-0 in the final group matches on Friday.

The matches were pure academic exercises, as they would not affect Saturday's fixtures for gold, silver and bronze. Hosts, South Africa which finished tops with superior goals over Egypt after both teams had bagged 10 points each, would play each other in the finals while third placed Ghana and Nigeria, both on four points, battle for bronze.

The winner of the grand finale would represent Africa at next year's Hockey World Cup in Germany while the runner up engage in a play-off.
In the ladies category, only the winner makes it to their World Cup in Madrid, Spain, next year.
Ghana came twice from behind to draw with Nigeria in an entertaining match on Friday.
Kolo Adamu and Ndana Baba Abdullahi scored for Nigeria while Ebenezer Frimpong and David Ghablah netted for Ghana. Ruthless South Africa put 12 past whipping boys Namibia. Gareth Carr, Reece Basson, Darryn Gallagher and Ian Symons each struck twice while John Paul, Steve Phillips, Mike Cullen and Andrew Cronje hit the back of the net once.
