Africa Polistas win 2011 Accra Open Polo

The African Polistas team made up of Amadu, Eric Gene, Travis and Darko Agyemang have won the 2011 Accra Open Polo tournament after beating GT Bank Ranch by 10 goals to 1.5 goals in last Saturday's final at the Accra Polo Club.
Africa Polistas also defeated Eagle Pharaohs of Egypt 12 to 1.5 in the prelims when GT Bank Ranch also beat Port Harcourt of Nigeria 13-4. African Polistas were overwehelming winners also taking away all individual prizes on offer. Travis was named most valuable player, Amadu got the most valuable professional award, Christiana was adjudged the most valuable horse and their patron Harold Awuah Darko received the most valuable patron accolade.
Eric, Gene, captain of the victorious side, sang the praises of his teammates.
"I'm very happy because we trained all day long for this tournament, it's the most important competition here and we are gald to win. I had good teammates who played well with good team spirit and organisation. I also have to thank our patron Harold even though he could not play himself today because of injury. Next year, we'll be here again," an obviously ecstatic Mr. Gene told ALL SPORTS.
For Harold Awuah Darko who is also the captain of the Accra Polo Club, this year has been a successful one in the annals of the club. He told ALL SPORTS: "It's been an eventful year where we played and won against Nigeria, France among them. We've had teams from Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria and I'm glad that a team from Ghana won."
Mr. Awuah Darko also revealed that the Accra Polo club will next year host the 1st African Ambassadors Polo tournament comprising two players from each of the 8 African countries where Polo is played.
