Accra, April 24, GNA - The inaugural edition of the Africa Youth (U-21) Netball Championship scheduled for Windhoek, Namibia from April 25 to May 3, has been rescheduled for next month. The postponement according to the Confederation of Africa Netball Association (CANA) was at the instance of the Sports Commission of Namibia.
A statement signed by Reverend Emmanuel D. Nikoi, President of the Netball Association of Ghana (NAG) copied to GNA Sports said the new development was communicated to his outfit by Sharifa Kh. Salim, Secretary-General of CANA. He said the new schedule will be announced later by the continental body.
Rev Nikoi who doubles as the Director of Marketing and Publicity of CANA said that the continental body has informed all countries interested in participating in the inaugural championship to confirm their participation before May 1, 2009. He explained that only eight countries including Ghana have so far confirmed their participation for the 10-day event. They are Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Namibia (hosts), Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Meanwhile, the Ghana Youth Netball team will move into residential camping from Wednesday, May 6, to fine-tune their strategies for the tournament. Fourteen players will be invited for the camping exercise.
