The Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has confirmed that over 50% of the hotel bills from Ghana’s hosting of the African Games have been settled.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry in Accra, Mustapha Ussif mentioned that the attention of the ministry had been drawn to reports which claimed the ministry owed over 48 hotels.

In stating the facts, the minister revealed that 44 hotels were contracted to provide hospitality services during the African Games. Out of the 44, 16 have been fully paid, leaving 28 with arrears. All 28 have at least received more than 40% payment.

“For your information, we engaged 44 hotels during the African Games and as we speak, it is only 28 that the ministry owes. The rest have all been paid in full and the 28 have all received more than 40% of payment and as and when we receive funds, the rest will be settled,” the minister said.

The Ministry is said to be in constant engagement with the hotels over the payment, and some picked up cheques from the Ministry last week.
