Executive Committee member and Chairman of the Black Satellites Management Committee, Mr. George Afriyie has strongly denied claims by former Black Stars deputy captain, Samuel Osei Kuffour, that he has said no player can ever be bigger than him. According to George, Osei Kuffour might have been misled to assume that he made that comment to have elicited such a reaction from him (Kuffour).
Samuel Osei Kuffour is reported to have described George Afriyie’s comment on TV 3 as unfortunate and disrespectful to both old and current national team players. But George Afriyie, in a reaction, described the whole scenario as a calculated attempt aimed at making him unpopular in the sight of the players.
In an interview with sportscrusader.com, George said, “My brother I have never made such a comment anywhere and I challenge everyone who does not believe me to prove to me where and when I said that. I believe Kuffour might have been misled to believe that I said that.”
“I have been struggling to remember if I ever made such a comment, and what keeps on coming to my mind is a comment I made on Asempa FM just after the World Cup and that was even in favour of the players. So I wonder why Osei kuffour should react like that”, George added.
“When we returned from the World Cup, I remember trying to justify why the players were in need of their appearance fees as citing old players’ unpaid bonuses and the unpredictable nature of the footballers’ career as possible reasons. So I wonder where I made that comment to warrant such an unfortunate reaction from Samuel Osei Kuffour. It is totally amazing and unfortunate”, he lamented.
“Kuffour should have cross-checked before embarking on such a journey of blaming me. It’s really unfortunate. But all those perpetrating such lies alongside Kuffour will apologise to me soon if they really value their integrity”, George ended.
