Agbomavi, Manteaw win Bok-Nam Kim Golf

J. K. Agomavi and Valentine Manteaw won the 7th Bok-Nam Kim Memorial Invitation Golf tournament held at the Bok-Nam Kim club course off the Tema-Aflao international trunk road.

On a day in which all six prize winners of the men’s handicap event beat down the course’s par-score of 72, Agomavi, playing to Handicap 7 and returning 4-under-par score of 68 net, had to beat three others — H. S. Oh, Nii Ankrah and Bruce Lee — on count back, all returning the same scores.

Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim similarly had to beat E. T. Mensah on count back with a 3-under-par score of 79 net.

Valentine Manteaw, a member of Accra Ladies team for the weekends Africa Ladies Open in Cote d’Ivoire, also won the Ladies’ Handicap play with a one-under par score of 71 net, beating Grace Komladzie 74 net, Esther Amedzo of Achimota 75 net and K. S. Lee 75 net losing on count back in that other.

Eric Henaku (Tema), Kojo Banni (Kumasi) and R. Adotey (Tema) with 72, 73, 73 score were the scratch winners (men). Abaloo (Achimota) with 88 gross and Mishida Mensah (Benso) with 90 gross claimed the ladies prizes in the scratch play.

D. J. Yim 68 net; D. Gyau, 69 net, and A. Johnson 70 net (men) Jeon J. S. 74 and J. J . Han 77 net (ladies won prizes in the special event.

Saturday’s one day attraction, which had H. E. the Korean Ambassador, E. N. Chung, the Communication Minister, J. Owusu-Adjapong, Nana Wereko Ampem II, the Chancellor, University of Ghana, Legon, Mr Mike Ezan, President, Ghana Golf Association as guests, recorded a heavy turnout of golfers from Kumasi, Achimota, Benso, Windy Bay, Bok-Nam, Kim and Celebrity clubs.

The ambassador, in a brief remark, paid glowing tribute to the late Bok-Nam, Kim for having single handedly contributed to the friendly Ghana-Korea relationship. He also praised Mrs Bok-Nam Kim for the continuous hosting of the annual competition which he said was healthy.

On his part, the captain of the club, J. A. Cobbina, commended participants for their turnout, saying it is a real show of solidarity that must be maintained.

He thanked Mrs Bok-Nam Kim and the Korean Community for the ?5 million donation and their support to the club. Mr Cobbina also thanked Aluworks of Tema for their donation of a quantity of roofing sheets towards the club’s fence wall project which is on-going and urged other individuals, companies and institutions to emulate.
