Agyekum lifts Asantehene Golf Gold Trophy

Kumasi, May 24, GNA - Edmund Agyekum of Kumasi Golf Club played a determined game to lift the 54th MTN Asantehene Golf Gold Cup played at the Royal Golf Park in Kumasi at the week-end.

The winner returned a gross of 144 to lift the trophy with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, on hand to present the prize to the champion.

The men's event was an all Kumasi affair that saw Kojo Poku and Daniel Ntim both of the Kumasi Golf Club placing second and third respectively with a gross of 147 and 150.

Tema-based Grace Afriyie popularly called 93Tiko" won the ladies event with 159 gross. She took a giant trophy as her prize.

Vivian Koume of the Cote d'Ivoire placed second by scoring a gross of 166, with Rhahida Khalil of the Kumasi Club, picking the third position with 171 gross.

Kwame Korsah of Kumasi Club also won the professional event and received a cash prize of GH¢2,500.00 while second-placed Kojo Barnni from Bogoso picked a cash amount of GH¢1,800.00 as his prize.

Vincent Torgah of Tema Club came third and received GH¢1,400.00. The men's handicap was won by Samuel Frimpong of Kumasi Club with a net 133, with H. Agbenu of Achimota Golf Club taking the second position with a net score of 143. The third position went to E.K. Kalai also of Achimota Club with 144 net.

Gresla Opoku of Kumasi Club emerged winner of the ladies handicap event on count-back of 141 with Vivian Dick also of Kumasi Club and Nana Bema Tackie from Tema Country Club placing second and third, respectively.

There were consolation prizes for the senior and junior golfers who participated in the competition.
