The board chairman of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Ato Ahwoi is refusing to answer whether marketing agency Westhead mooted a deal to sponsor the Black Stars.
Westhead has the mandate to secure sponsorship for the various national teams in Ghana and they claim they approached the GNPC to sponsor the Ghana national team.
GNPC is set to sponsor the Black Stars for US$3m per year as the headline sponsors of the senior national team.
But the notion has been created in certain media circles that Westhead played no role in brokering the deal as they will be seeking their commission if the deal goes through.
The GNPC board chairman previously denied that Westhead did not participate in brokering the deal.
But when pressed on Joy FM whether Wetshead initiated the move to sponsor the Black Stars, Ahwoi said: “This is neither here nor there.”
“All I am saying is that we am not interested in any third-party deal. If there is a third-party involved then the deal is off."
Westhead insist they have documents from GNPC showing that they mooted the deal at management level last year.
They say they have all the sponsorship proposal they sent to GNPC management which led to several meeting before the board came in.
