Ainooson injury-layoff rumours allayed

Asante Kotoko have allayed fears that defender Abeiku Ainooson could be set for a long spell on the sidelines.

Ainooson, who has been battling injuries this season, suffered another injury and had to be substituted in the 66th minute of last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Bechem United in the FCPPL.

Reports emerged that the centre-back, who won best defender in the league and FA Cup last season, had damaged a ligament and would require 10 weeks (the rest of the season) to recover, but Asante Kotoko’s head of medics has flatly denied the claims. He will rather miss about two weeks of action due to a strain.

”I don’t know where this is coming from. He [Abeiku Ainooson] just had a minor injury; it is not a big deal,” club doctor, Kwaku Boateng told supersport.com.

”It is a strain so he is not going to be out for months. Let’s say after this and next week, he should be fine.”

The former New Edubiase centre-back will thus be ruled out of Kotoko’s President’s Cup clash with rivals Hearts of Oak and two FCPPL games – against Medeama.
