Asante Kotoko defender Abeiku Ainooson has opened talks for a contractual extension, his agent has revealed.
The centre-back cum right-back has been a firm staple for the Porcupine Warriors since moving from New Edubiase United two seasons ago.
Ainooson has been on the radar of some foreign clubs since putting up an impressive display at the 2014 CHAN in South Africa.
Kotoko want to avoid losing out on another player after players like Kofi Nti Boakye, Issah Yakubu, Michael Helegbe walked out after the expiration of their deals.
“Kotoko have expressed interest in extending Abeiku’s [Ainooson] contract and indeed he and the club are discussing terms of a possible renewal,” Ainooson’s agent Kurt Okraku said.
“To put it on record, Abeiku has not said he will not renew his contract with Kotoko.
“He plays regularly and appreciates the platform the club has given him. He will never turn his back to the club.
“He will continue to negotiate with Kotoko and make sure he gets what is due him and what matches his status as the best defender and footballer in the country. I think this must be clear.”
