Akafo wins Bok Nam Kim Memorial Golf

Tema, April 19, GNA - Francis Akafo returned a net score of 66 to win this year's Bok Nam Kim Memorial Open Golf Championship played at Tema Country Course on Saturday. Francis Amuzu who lost on count-back to Akafo, took the second position while John Tetteh placed third beating Theophilus Asampong on count-back after they had both returned 67 net score. In the ladies encounter, Clara Price came first with 71 net, Margaret Owusu-Baah took the second position with 72 net by beating Felicity Gyeabour and Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong on count-back. John Mawule won the professional's category with 139 gross, Emos Korblah came second with 141 gross, David Doe followed with 142 gross while Victor Brave Mensah placed fourth with 145 gross. The one-day 18-hole Stableford competition which was opened to amateur and professional golfers throughout the country attracted 120 participants.

The event, which was in memory of the late, Mr Bok Nam Kim, former Chief Executive Officer of Afko Group of Companies who single-handedly sponsored Ghana's contingent to the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, was sponsored by management of Afko Group of Companies. Mr S.C. Chun, Chief Executive Officer of Afko Group of Companies, described the late Mr Kim, who was also former President of Tema Golf Club as a man whose contribution had made the club unique. He was optimistic the participants would emulate the late Mr Kim who died in 1995 to develop and promote sports in the country. Mr S.H. Lee, Korean Ambassador to Ghana expressed the hope that the event would continue to strengthen the already cordial relationship between Ghana and Korea.
