Accra, Aug. 23, GNA - Aaron Akaful and two other golfers from the Achimota Golf Club, turned professionals after qualifying from the "Second Annual Ghana Professional Golfers Association (GPGA)" qualifying Championship at the Achimota Golf Course on Sunday.
Akaful and his compatriots F.A. Asorgba and A.J. Williams joined the handful of Ghanaian professional golfers across the country after Sunday's feat.
Akaful who has won most of the amateur competitions staged in the country scaled above his peers in the Sunday's qualifier with a gross score of 289.
Asorgba was also impressive with 296 gross while Williams took the third position with 298 gross.
In a prelude to the main event, J.A. Love came first with 297 gross, Y.B. Otchere placed second with 299 gross while Kweku Korsah took the third position with 299 gross.
Mr David Abaloo, Tournament Director of GPGA tasked the newly qualified professionals to be law-abiding and confine themselves to the rules and regulations governing the sport.
He urged them to take their training seriously so they could become the next 'Tiger Wood'.
The four-day competition was sponsored by Bayswater Construction and Mining (BCM) Limited. The next qualifier has been billed for January 2005.
