President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cut the sod for the construction of an ultramodern artificial football park (astro turf) at a brief ceremony at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The 500-capacity facility will be accompanied by floodlights, panel mesh fencing, changing rooms and washrooms.

The president had earlier in the day addressed outgoing students at the first session of the University’s 11th Congregation which saw a total of 326 students graduating from the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Information Technology & Communication Studies.

The structure which is expected to be completed in 4 months will cost approximately GHS4 million.

The project falls in line with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, an active sportsman in his youth, to harness the sporting potentials of students of the university and to encourage individuals with sporting talents to make UPSA a learning institution of choice. Prof. Amartey’s commitment to the University’s sporting potential is evident in improvements in the UPSA’s overall performances at inter-university games in recent times.

Early last year, Prof. Amartey also set up a four-man sports committee to help drive sports at UPSA, further consolidating his devotion.
