Akunnor backs Avram Grant to succeed as Black Stars coach

Ex-Ghana captain C.K Akunnor is confident Israeli coach Avram Grant will be a massive hit with the Black Stars.

The former Chelsea and West Ham manager was confirmed on Thursday as the Ghana Football Association’s choice to succeed Kwesi Appiah who was dismissed in September.

Grant’s experience in-charge of the Israeli national team from 2002 to 2006 will be a major boost.

He also guided Chelsea to the final of the 2007/2008 UEFA Champions League and missed out on the trophy to Manchester City.

Akunnor believes Grant has the acumen and personnel to win titles during the two years he will be in-charge.

“Once he is confirmed as coach of Black Stars, we all have to rally behind him,” the former Wolfsburg captain said.

“His track record speaks volume of him and for me he is top class coach.

“We have enjoyed some very unpleasant times as Ghanaians but we should be united, stronger to forge ahead.”
