Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Youth and Culture, Hon. Alex Kofi Agyekum has urged Ghana Premier League players to sympathize with their clubs and accept a pay cut.

The Member of Parliament believes that this is an essential way to help the clubs to cope with the financial difficulties they are facing amid the Coronavirus break.

The Ghana league and all other football competitions in the country has been put on hold as a measure in the fight against the widespread of the novel Coronavirus.

Hon. Agyekum's comments come after the Ghana FA and the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) requested for government assistance for the football clubs to boost their finances within this period.

Hon. Agyekum also asked football clubs to implement internal measures to remedy their situation before running to the government for support.

"I have this piece of advise for the players, they should condole with the club owners," he told Asempa FM

"They should sit down with management and come to a compromise for a pay cut,"

"So that this Covid -19 crisis won’t decimate the clubs, gradually when things get back to normal, the clubs will bounce back,"

"The clubs give them bonuses in good times, so why can’t they accept to compromise in difficult times. They should not insist on taking what exactly is on their contract forms. That wouldn’t be right."
