Ghana international Alexander Djiku has hailed Fenerbache’s tenacity after they left it late to beat Lugano in the UEFA Champions League second round of the qualifiers.

The Black Stars defender lasted the entire duration as his outfit cruised to a 2-1 home win over their opponent in the second leg tie.

Djiku was rock-solid at the back for the Turkish outfit as they came from behind to snatch victory over Lugano on Tuesday.

Before the return leg, Fenerbache had inflicted a 4-3 away win over Lugano at the Stockholm Arena last week.

However, Fenerbache’s comeback win over Lugano ensured they edge out the Swiss outfit 6-4 on aggregate to advance to the next stage.

After the game, the former Strasbourg defender took to social to praise his outfit fighting spirit in the much-anticipated clash played at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Spor Kompleksi.

“Fighting Spirit ⚔️ 💛💙Next round @championsleague @Fenerbahce” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Fenerbache were handed an early scare after Tunisian Hadj Mahmoud gave Lugano the lead after just seven minutes into the game. Lugano went to the halftime break with the advantage.

Putting on a stellar performance, the host staged a comeback to secure victory in the much-anticipated clash on Tuesday.

Experienced forward Edin Dzeko pulled one back for the home team in the 59th minute before Sebastian Szymanski fired home the match-winner three minutes into the additional time.
