President of King Faisal Babies Alhaji Karim Grunsah has lauded FIFA’s decision to hand referee Joseph Lamptey a life-time ban as he believes it is a step in the right direction.
On Monday, FIFA announced that Lamptey was found guilty of match manipulation in the World Cup qualifier where he awarded a dubious penalty for South Africa against Senegal in November last year.
Lamptey was earlier handed a three-month ban by CAF after the Senegalese FA protested vehemently.
And some of the top gurus of Ghana football have expressed their infuriation over the world football governing body’s decision, which they believe it’s harsh.
However, the outspoken Grunsah says otherwise as he believes FIFA should be applauded for such a stance.
''FIFA did the right thing by banning referee Joseph Lamptey for life. This is a great decision by the World's Football governing body as it will serve a big time lesson to those who would like to follow suit in handling a raw deal to football clubs,'' Gruzah told Fox FM
''Football owners do suffer a lot from bad officiating. It is very disgusting to see your club being subjected to awful treatment regarding officiating by referees.''
''I don't know whether they think we use stones in running our clubs or what... I can't tell. To me the decision by FIFA to slapped him with a life ban is justifiable,” he fumed.
The veteran football administrator cuts deep into the beleaguered official again by claiming that the Ghana FA should have handed this hefty ban years back.
''Ghana FA should have given him the punishment long ago, but because of some people selfish interest in the country; such decision can never happen in our football as justice will not be serve right,'' he underscored.
