Accra, July 30, GNA-Mohammed Ali of Ghana Police Service defeated Felix Lartey of Ghana Immigration Service 2-0 in the finals, to win the maiden DHL Ga Homowo Open Table Tennis Championship played at the Borstal Institute in Accra on Saturday.
Ali, who was a delight to watch, thrilled the sparse crowd with some dangerous services, which always pose a threat to his opponent. In the Ladies Division, Celia Baah Danso from the Central Region also defeated Akosua Ketu from the Volta Region 2-0 to emerge champions. The third position, in the Men's Division went to Asafo Adjaye by beating Daniel Abrefa 2-1 while Bernice Borquaye came third by beating Beatrice Gyan 2-1 in the Ladies encounter.
More than 100 players drawn from all over the region, took part in the one-day game which was sponsored by DHL. Mr. James Dennis Armah, Secretary-General of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) praised the company for sponsoring the event. He charged the players to take their training seriously so that they could win laurels for themselves and the nation as a whole.
