Accra, July 11, GNA - Al Hamilton, Chairman of the Commonwealth Sports Awards and organizers of the impending All Africa Sports Awards has said his outfit will soon come with a list of members to form the Planning Committee for the event.
Speaking to the GNA Sports in Accra, Mr Hamilton said his outfit is currently in discussions with individuals who are capable of serving on the committee whose names will be made public in due course. He, however, revealed that the Committee will be headed by Mr Charles Wereko Brobbey, Chief Executive of the Ghana@50 Secretariat. Mr Hamilton said plans are advanced to compile a list of journalists whose responsibilities will be to liaise with their colleagues in other countries to make nominations for the various categories.
According to Hamilton, the move is to give the event a true African identity to reflect the purpose for which it was established, adding that the event has already received the blessing of the African Union. Sports men and women will receive awards in 12 categories during the awards scheduled for November 17, a month designated by the Ghana@50 secretariat as the Sports Month.
He urged Ghanaians and all other Africans to embrace the event and back it with the needed support to make it a success.
