Preparations are set for the 14th edition of the Mfantsipim-Adisadel Fun Day Games to take place this Saturday, August 30 at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Uniting a Generation of Change Makers’, and starts at 8:0am and close at 5:00pm.
Old boys and girls from Mfantsipim, Adisadel, Wesley Girls High School, Holy Child and Mfantsiman together with current students will converge at the Stadium to rekindle old friendships, reminiscent, exercise and have fun whist raising funds to support their schools.
Some companies will also be there to showcase their business activities, products and services.
The Special Guests will be Hon. Kojo Yankah (SANTA’64) a former Member of Parliament and Minister of State and Founder/President of the African University College of Communication (AUCC), and Mr. Frank Tackie (MOBA’67), immediate past President of the Ghana institute of Planners and CEO of The Consortium, a firm of consulting architects, planners and engineers.
The main activity will be football matches involving decade teams (60’s – 2000’s) for Mfantsipim and Adisadel and a round robin competition for the ladies from Wesley Girls High School, Holy Child and Mfantsiman Girls.
Other activities include cricket and basketball, which will mainly feature old boys in the universities, some selected athletic events and a special Jama session for everybody.
The match involving the present school teams will be the climax of the event. As usual there will be music (Dj and Brass band) and lots of food, snacks and drinks on sale.
The gates will be opened at 8:00am and an entrance fee of Ghc 10.00 will be charged.
Security personnel will be stationed at designated places to help with the parking of cars. This is because of the on-going road construction work in front and around the El-Wak Stadium.
The concept of the Mfantsipim-Adisadel Fun Day Games was conceived in 1992 with the aim of bringing old Boys of the two schools together on a social platform to foster a partnership geared towards utilizing resources to raise funds for the development of the two schools.
The maiden event was held on Saturday July 11, 1992 at the El-Wak Sports Stadium with His Lordship the late Justice P.E.N.K. Archer (SANTA 1944), then Chief Justice of Ghana inspecting the teams and taking the ceremonial kick- off.
