Amamoo Axed from stars

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has dropped Sweden-based goalkeeper William Amamoo for next week's World Cup qualifier against Benin in Coutonou.

Amamoo has paid the price for a series of mistakes in a recent international friendly.

Egypt-based keeper George Owu takes over the deputy spot for the regular Black Stars shot-stopper Richard Kingson for the Group D World Cup qualifier.

The Vasalund goalkeeper was at fault for Japan's third goal in the World Cup warm-up in October.

The Sweden-based goalkeeper let in four in the second half as Ghana threw away a two goal lead to lose 3-4 in Utrecht.

Amamoo was widely accused of producing a nervous display in Ghana's 4-3 defeat by Japan which prompted a huge campaign to bring in Heart of Lions keeper Stephen Ahorlu.

Despite the intensive PR exercise to bring in Ahorlu, the Serbian coach insists Hearts of Oak keeper Philemon McCarthy leads in the Lions shot-stopper in the pecking order.

Amamoo insists he will fight back for his position in the national team in future.

Ghana has already qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is it is preparing for the tournament to be held on African soil for the first time.
