Amarteifio resigns as Great Olympics Chairman

Accra, Aug. 16, GNA – Amarkai Amarteifio, Board Chairman of former Premier League campaigners, Accra Great Olympic has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

The Legal stalwart, who doubles as the Honorary Swedish Consul in Ghana, announced his resignation in a letter dated August 14, 2012 addressed to the Secretary of the Club and copied to GNA Sports.

“I am no longer able to continue in my role as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Accra Great Olympics as I have fulfilled the assignment for which I was mandated.

“I refer to the submission, to the Directors of Accra Great Olympics Football Club, of the final report on the flotation of shares in the club as the basis for the restructuring exercise.

Amarteifio, one-time Secretary of Youth and Sports in the PNDC era, added “That brings the curtain down on the assignment for which I received the mandate of the Accra High Court presided over by Justice (Mrs) Inkumsah Abban. I believe that the report when implemented will secure the success of Accra Great Olympics.

“At this point I will like to thank the rank and file of Olympics for their support during my tenure as Chairman of the Board of Directors”.

Amarteifio served as Board Chairman of Great Olympic for five years, during which period the Club was promoted to the elite division in 2009.

Nicknamed the “Wonder Club” and formerly the third force in Ghana football after Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, in-house troubles has seen the Club witness inconsistencies on and off the pitch.

Great Olympic are currently in the second-tier, the Division One, and have even failed to qualify for the Zonal Middle League after being relegated from the Premier League after the 2009/2010 football season.
