Amoah relishes glorious comeback

Accra, Oct 9, GNA - Dutch-based Ghanaian striker Matthew Amoah is relishing a glorious return to the Black Stars after almost a year's hiatus.

Amoah returns to the Black Stars after he was left out of the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations squad last January. He has however been included in the 23-man squad for Saturday's 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho which Ghana must win to keep a realistic chance of progressing further in the qualifier.

The striker whose recall has been masterminded due to his current goal-scoring form at his club, NAC Breda in the Dutch League told GNA Sports in Accra on Thursday he will be happy to crown his comeback with a goal or more.

"I am very happy to be back and will be happier if I get a goal to justify my recall."

Amoah has scored eight goals in six outings in the Dutch top flight but insists he is not the answer to the Stars recurring goal-scoring predicament.

"I am here to contribute my quota but I cannot promise goals because we play as a team."

The soft spoken striker expressed optimism about the Stars progress to the next round of the qualifiers. Amoah who turns 28 on October 24 scored the last of his five goals in a Black Star jersey in May 2006 in an international friendly against Turkey in the build to the Germany World Cup.
