Amuzu and 39 others for Peugeot Golf finals

Tema, June 26, GNA - Anthony Amuzu together with 39 other golfers qualified for the finals of this year's Peugeot Challenge Golf Championship scheduled for the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday, July 2.

Amuzu returned a net score of 66 to win the Greater Accra Regional Qualifier played at the Tema Country Golf Course on Saturday. Among those who qualified are I. B. Ocansey who placed second with 68 net, D.J. Ennin who came third also with 68 net but lost on count-back to Ocansey while Robert Aziamakpor also lost on count-back to Kofi Degbe after both had returned 69 net score.

Among the Lady qualifiers are Margaret Anderson who came first with 66 net, Grace Owusu Baah second with 68 net, Letiticia Amponsah Mensah third with 70 net with Yaa Konadu Safo Debrah placing fourth with 74 net. Nana Antwi Boasiako, B. Donkor and D. Holley qualified from the Seniors Event with a net score of 77, 78 and 80 in that order whilst Christopher Mbii and Hodgewonning also had a berth in the finals from the Juniors for returning a net score of 58 and 62 respectively.

The One-day 18-hole Event, sponsored by Prestige Motor Company was opened to amateur golfers in the Greater Accra Region. Mr Yaw Kwakye, Commercial Manager of Prestige Motors said the company would continue to support the lesser-known sports as its social responsibility. Mr Kofi Gyau, Captain of the Tema Country Golf Club appealed to the

company to help organise and sponsor next year's finals of the competition at Tema. This, he said, would enable more golfers to register and contribute to the development of the sport.
