Andre Ayew is a diamond -Brando

Midfielder Andre Ayew has been described as " a diamond" after his goal scoring exploits for Marseille in the 2-2 draw with Reims.

Ayew returned to Marseille on Tuesday after a month away with the national team of Ghana at the AFCON in Equatorial Guinea, a tournament where he emerged top goal scorer as the Black Stars emerged as runner-up to the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire and immediately returned to action for title chasing Marseille.

Former Marseille star Frederic Brando in his assessment of the game expressed his admiration of the player who is likely to depart Les Phoceens on a free transfer in June.

"I would like to open a personal aside: we do not realise it, but we have a real diamond in our team André Ayew. He can play multiple positions. He returned to the CAN, there are 48 hours and he is not tired. At the 89th-minute, he runs again, he comes back, tackles, defend. It's fabulous."

The result, however, leaves Marcelo Bielsa's side lagging behind in what is a three horse race between league leaders Marseille and champions PSG and Brando admits there is a lot of work to be done.

"It's a real disappointment. They are two points lost against a team widely within our reach. It has often been said, especially early in the season: to finish in the top three, it is important not to lose points against the guy teams. It's a shame, because according to the results of Lyon and PSG, we may be off the hook.
