Andre Ayew out for Sudan qualifier

Andre Ayew will not make it into the squad that Ghana will field in the Black Stars double header against Sudan and Nigeria in October. Richard Kingson will also not get a place in the side.

SuperSport.com understands that the Marseille man is not in the team because he is now recovering from injury, but rather due to coach Goran Stevanovic’s unhappiness over the player missing the last friendly with Brazil.

Though the player picked up a knock in the Sudan game which caused him to sit out the game with the South Americans, there are reports that Goran would have wanted him to make the bench, regardless.

Ghana’s coach has been stern with his players since taking charge, and indications are that the dropping of Andre is to serve as a warning to others of who is in charge in the team. In Ayew’s place, the Serbian has called up Quincy Owusu-Abeyie. The Greek-based player has not played for Ghana for a year and would want to secure a place in a team he used to feature regularly in the run up to the 2008 Nations Cup in Ghana.

SuperSport understands that Daniel Agyei would get in ahead of Richard Kingson, following his gold medal winning exploits in Maputo in the All Africa Games.

Ghana are on top of Group I on goal difference and must avoid defeat in Omdurman to get the automatic slot for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
