Ansu Junior wins Accra Poly Richoco Cross Country

Accra, Feb. 11, GNA--Kwadwo Ansu Junior clocked 41.21 minutes, to win this year's Accra Polytechnic Richoco Cross Country Race held in Accra on Saturday.

The 10-kilometre Cadbury Ghana Limited-sponsored race which marks the end of sporting activities for the Semester, started from the Tetteh Quarshie Round About in Accra and ended at the Campus, saw Ansu, First year student, ran past the 500 competitors to emerge champion. He was followed by Jonas Kojo Sarfo who was timed 42.06 minutes while Akpalu Simon placed third with a time of 42.29 minutes. Stella Konadu won the Ladies category with a time of one hour.two seconds,Mabel Botsio came second, seven seconds later, while Eunice Kuuteg took the third position with a time of one hour 02.42 minutes.

Dr Sylvester Achio, Acting Principal of the Accra Polytechnic, praised the participants for the sportsmanship exhibited in the competition and asked them to keep it up. He said even though sports and for that matter athletics do not earn marks for the students academic work, it helps improve their health status, gives them a form of recreation and free-mind to improve on their academic performance.

Dr Achio said the polytechnic would continue to encourage the students to take active interest in sports so that they would remain healthy at all times.

Mr Benjamin Ofori, Brands Manager (Food/Beverages) of Cadbury Ghana Limited, gave the assusrance that his company would continue to sponsor the competition in the ensuing years.
