Appiah to captain Friends of Attuquayefio for Charity match

Ex-Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah will captain the Friends of Attuquayefio football team in the charity match in honour of veteran coach Cecil Jones Attuquayefio on Friday, June 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A statement from the organizers of the match, Primeval Consult copied to GNA Sports, said Appiah has committed to lead the team that will feature against the select team of the Black Stars for the historic match in honour of the former Black Stars and Hearts of Oak trainer.

The Friends of Attuquayefio side will feature both former and current players in the likes of Togolese star Emmanuel Adebayor, keeper Sammy Adjei, Emmanuel Osei Kufour, Jacob Nettey, Godwin Osei Bonsu, Bobie Ansah, Charles Akunnor, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Mahatma Otoo, Joe Ansah, Michael Helegbe, Bernard Kumodzi, Samuel Affum, Amankwa Mireku, Ishmael Addo, John Painstil and Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars will parade players like keeper Daniel Agyei, John Boye, Isaac Vorsah, Daniel Opare, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, David Addy, Anthony Annan, Sulley Muntari, Rabiu Mohammed, Kwadjo Asamoah, John Mensah, Samuel Inkoom, Derek Boateng, Jerry Akaminko, Prince Tagoe, keeper Robert Dabuo, Richard Mpong and Emmanuel Baffour.

According to the statement, Black Stars head coach James Kwesi Appiah and his assistants have also given their commitment to the match and are ready to provide technical guidance on the day.

The statement said the match is aimed at raising funds for the veteran coach as well as the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Coach Attuquayefio, one of the Ghana’s renowned coaches has for the past two years been battling with throat cancer.

The illness truncated his illustrious coaching career which saw him chalk several successes as a coach.

Proceeds from the match would go to the coach whilst the rest would be donated to the ENT Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.**
