Veteran Ghanaian sports journalist Kwabena Yeboah sought the opinion of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo on whether he is concerned about Sudan coach Kwasi Appiah’s team ahead of the crucial tie.
During the press conference held at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) premises to announce the squad on October 4, 2024, Yeboah raised concerns about the status of Kwasi Appiah as part of the GFA Executive Committee while also being the coach of Sudan.
The legendary sports journalist asked Otto Addo if he is not worried about Appiah’s Sudan, who seem to be a better side after losing at home against Angola in their last game.
"The first time we lost on neutral ground, although it was supposed to be our home ground. So definitely, you must be under pressure to win the next game. You played against a team handled by Kwasi Appiah, a Ghanaian, not just another Ghanaian.
“First of all, a former captain of the Black Stars, an assistant coach of the Black Stars for over six years, a substantive coach of the Black Stars for four years, who knows all the inner workings of the Black Stars, and currently an executive committee member of the office who sits in our meetings. It's provable. So definitely, I don't know to what extent this weighs on you,” said Kwabena Yeboah.
In response, Otto Addo stated that he is aware of Kwasi Appiah’s coaching prowess and experience; however, he is more focused on preparing his team in the best possible way to secure victory.
The Black Stars will play Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10, 2024.
Ghana occupies the third position with one point in Group F of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers after two matches.
