Mr. Charles Osei Assibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF), has said the sport would soon be the next big thing in Ghana, aside football.

Mr. Assibey in an interview with GNA Sports, ahead of the upcoming Africa Armwrestling Championship, slated for Ghana from 26th -29th July, 2018 at the Hathramani Sport Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium, said football has taken the lead in the sporting industry because of proper management practices and the passion it attracts from the people.

“We strongly believe that Armwrestling would be the next big thing in Ghana, it would be a sport of choice and all it needs is time.

“Armwrestling would be next to football, though it is difficult and challenging, but after this championship the story of Armwrestling would change,” he said.

Mr Assibey added that, Armwrestling, which has not been in existence for long in Ghana, has come to stay and would catch up with football in no time.

“Football obviously popular, but Armwrestling, which we use to play back in the days has not gained that popularity, because football has been well managed, which has made it popular and grown faster.

“We have done just two years in Armwrestling and from where we are coming from, I think we have done well in our preparation,” he stated.

The President appealed to corporate Ghana, the general public and individuals to help promote the sport to a greater height, adding that the Armwrestling championship scheduled for Ghana has numerous advantages to portray what the country has to offer Africa and the world.
