But the over 6 foot tall defender wants to play for Ghana's U-17 team, the Black Starlets.

"I have made the choice to play for Ghana and my decision is final," Boateng told KickOffghana.com.

"It is true that the English system gave me a lot in training but my heart is with Ghana where my parents come from.

"I also want to give something back to Ghana and I also know that playing for the country will also help enhance my career.

"Fantastic players like Essien, Appiah and Mensah who did not have the facilities we have in England have come out of the country and excelled and I am sure I will do the same."

Boateng's availability for the Black Starlets has alerted coach Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie who is picking Ghana's U-17 team for the African and World Cup qualifiers.

Boateng has formed a superb partnership with Oliver Nicholas in recent weeks for the Arsenal Under-16s, having previously played for the Under 15’s on a regular basis.

A centre back by trade, he can also play left back or as a holding midfielder.
