Fans of English Premier league side Arsenal are desperate for the club to make a January move for Atletico Madrid's Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey following the latest twist in Granit Xhaka’s Gunners career.
Unai Emery confirmed earlier this week in a press conference that the Swiss star has been stripped of the captaincy at the Emirates with Gabonese star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang taking over the armband.
That decision sparked speculations about Xhaka's future with several media outlets linking him with a move away from the Emirate in January.
Xhaka was left out of Arsenal's squad for their Europa league trip to Vitoria on Wednesday which led to the clubs official supporters group, Worldwide AFC taking to social media to urge the club to sign Partey as a replacement.
The post went down well with lots of Arsenal fans, who were seemingly keen on a deal, with some even urging the club to consider a swap deal.
It looks as if Xhaka may well end his three-year association with the Gunners in the coming months, and his potential departure won’t leave too many fans disappointed.
A swap deal involving Xhaka and Partey looks extremely unlikely, but if the Gunners can somehow bring the Atletico star to the Emirates, it would be an excellent piece of business.
Partey has been compared to former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira, a player the Gunners have failed to really replace since his north London exit in 2005.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal are willing to firm up their reported interest in Partey, who has a £43.5 million release clause, but if they do, it looks as if it would go down extremely well with the fans.
