Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Thomas Partey as the midfielder is not satisfied with Atletico Madrid‘s new contract offer, according to a report.
Partey has been the subject of persistent speculation regarding a summer switch to the Emirates, with the player’s father adding fuel to the fire by confirming that talks have taken place between the two parties.
Atletico’s proposed new deal could see Partey double his wages to £130,000 per week at the Wanda Metropolitano, but Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman has claimed that the midfielder has refused to pen fresh terms.
Speaking to The AFC Bell, Osman said: “I do not know the smallest details in the contract submitted by Atletico Madrid.
“But the description that I received from my sources stated that it did not meet the aspirations of the player and his team.
“This offer is ‘rubbish’ and therefore the player did not sign it. I contacted Thomas’ father and the quotes are real.
“He said that on the radio but was not authorized to publish those details.”
Partey’s current deal with Diego Simeone‘s side will expire in the summer of 2023, and the 26-year-old has registered two goals in 24 La Liga appearances this term.
