Asamoah Gyan: Ghana is an all-round team

Striker Asamoah Gyan admits the loss of star midfielder Michael Essien to injury is a big blow to Ghana's chances at the 2010 FIFA World Cup but is sure there will be an adequate replacement for the Chelsea player.

"It is unfortunate that we've lost Essien, for me its a big blow because he inspires the team. He is one of the best players in the world and there's no doubt that when he is in your team, you feel better," Asamoah told EUROSPORT at the Black Stars' pre-World Cup training camp.

The Rennes striker who scored Ghana's first ever goal at the World Cup four years ago, however is ready to quickly put aside the disappointment of losing Essien. He says Ghana is so blessed with many soccer talents that it will not be difficult replacing the 27 year old Essien.

"I can tell you that Essien is the best player in our team now but we are an all-round team, everybody can play. I know that the one who replaces him will work as hard as him and we shall have no problems," Gyan added.

Shifting focus to captain Stephen Appiah, 24 year old Gyan says there is no reason to panic over the form of the former Juventus and Fenerbahce star. Asamoah says Appiah is not just a good player who can highly influence games, but also he is an inspiration to everyone. "Things have not been too good for him in recent years but I'm happy he is back because psychologically it is always good for him when he is in the team. He is a good and fantastic player who can do anything at anytime. Appiah is a good captain and we need him on the field," Gyan stated.
