Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad contacted Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan before making their failed bid to sign Mubarak Wakaso, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 25-year-old traveled to Milan to have a medical and to hold further talks with the club after they were convinced by Asamoah Gyan to make a move for the former Espanyol man.

Asamoah Gyan has been an immense success since moving to Asian in 2011 where he first joined Al Ain.

Clubs in that region always seek the views of the Black Stars captain whenever they decide to make a move for a Ghanaian player.

A source close to the Shanghai SIPG striker told GHANAsoccernet.com: “They [Al Ittihad] called Asamoah to ask him whether Wakaso will be a good buy for them.

“He told them he was an excellent player who will really help them.”

The deal to bring Wakaso to Al Ittihad where he would’ve joined compatriot Sulley Muntari however collapsed in the final stages of negotiations over a dispute between two agents.

Miguel Garcias Hita who has been representing the Rubin Kazan man for the past three years threatened to report both the club and his new agent Edouardo Crnjcar to FIFA if they pushed through with the move.

This spooked Al Ittihad as the Saudi Arabian club don’t want to be involved in any complications with the world football governing body.
