Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan has been named the Sportsman of the Year at the 2016 Exclusive Men of the Year Awards (EMY Awards) held yesterday in Accra.
The SIPG striker beat fellow Black Stars teammates Dede Ayew and Jeffery Schupp to the award. Others nominated in the category were boxer Richard Commey, baseball enthusiast Albert Frimpong and basketball administrator, Yaw Sakyi Afari to the award.
Gyan polled the most votes through a text-messaging process to clinch the coveted award which was accepted on his behalf by the CEO of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, Sammy Anim Addo.
The EMY Awards seeks to recognise, reward, inspire greatness and celebrates men of excellence. It also encourages leadership skills for achievement as well as challenge the youth to aspire to greatness.
This year’s EMY Awards were held at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.
