At Juventus' training camp, Kwadwo Asamoah shares a room with newly-signed national teammate Richmond Boakye-Yiadom. The two are looking to hit off well in their new club. Boakye-Yiadom is on a co-ownership deal from Genoa, while Asamoah had a well publicized move from Udinese.
It is a tale of first time for both players, who have experienced varying levels of stardom in their respective careers. Kwadwo Asamoah, the older and more accomplished of the two, says the reception he got from Juventus fans was a fond memory.
"The reception by the fans? Splendid. I didn't expect so much affection in my dealings with them but I am happy," he told Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport.
More importantly, critics of his reported 15 million euro move point out that he will have a considerable hurdle to scale in the establishment that Andrea Pirlo. But Asamoah chose to deflect the threat for a first time place by extolling the influence of the Italian trequartista.
"I don't have any idols in particular but Pirlo is a phenomenon. He's a great player with more than ten years at the highest levels"
The Black Stars playmaker is aware of the big Ghanaian boots he has to fill at the Turin club. Before he signed for Juventus, Asamoah was preceded by the legendary Stephen Appiah.
"Appiah is my great co-national and he played here. Everyone in my country is happy and proud of my arrival at Juve," Asamoah said.
