Asamoah lifts Steelers

A second-half strike from former Ghanaian international Derek Asamoah gave Pohang Steelers a 1-0 win at Chunnam Dragons. The well-travelled winger received the ball on the edge of the area from Cho Chan-Ho with 12 minutes remaining and lashed a half-volley shot past Lee Woon-Jae for his first goal in the K-League and a first win for new coach Hwang Sun-Hong.

"It means more to help Pohang get their first win of the season than to score my first goal at the club," said Asamoah. "As we expected it was a tight game but a good game. Our aim is to keep winning."

Coach Hwang was pleased with Asamoah's display. "Asamoah is adapting more quickly that we thought," said the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ star. "As the team starts to combine better, we will see more of his strong points."
