Asante Kotoko CEO calls for state support as corporate bodies freeze contracts

George Amoako George Amoako

The outbreak of Covid-19 has taken a severe financial toll on Ghanaian football clubs as the Ghana Football Association run to government for support.

Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, George Amoako has revealed that the club is in a dire need of financial support due to the reluctance of corporate bodies to support.

According to the Executive Council member, the Porcupines Warriors depend largely on gate proceeds together with some sponsorship from corporate bodies.

Speaking on Happy FM programme to discuss the effect of Covid-19, Amoako revealed the suspension of football has become a burden to the clubs since they are not able to generate any fund.

“As a result of this Covid-19, corporate bodies who are supporting us monthly have stopped paying the monies because they are not getting the mileage they are expecting when the football season is on. Because we are not playing football, they are not paying the monies.

Asked why MTN have suspended their financial support to the club, Amoako answered: “I can’t disclosed the conditions in the contract. Whatever the case we have to suffer the consequence,” he added.
