Goalkeeper, Isaac Amoako and other accident victims have expressed their deepest appreciation to the Almighty God for saving their lives in last Wednesday’s motor accident on the Nkawkaw road.

In an interview with Asantekotokosc.com for the first time since the accident, Amoako attributed everything to God’s favour explaining that things could’ve been worse.

“It was a dangerous incident and the manner in which we were saved was miraculous. We’re most grateful to God. It was clear His grace and mercy were upon us on that day. We also thank our medics and other volunteers who came around to help. But for their intervention and effort, maybe the accident could’ve claimed more lives” said Amoako.

The Porcupines were in Accra on July 12, 2017 for a midweek duel against Inter Allies at the El-Wak Stadium. Kotoko lost the game 1-0. On their way back to Kumasi, the team bus sadly ran into a stationary KIA truck on the Nkawkaw Highway killing Deputy Equipment Officer, Thomas Obeng Asare.

Driver, Nana Berchie, Head Coach, Steven Polack; Team Manager, Godwin Ablordey and players were injured. They were rushed to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital and subsequently to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for medical attention. Thankfully, all the players have been treated and discharged with the exception of Coach Polack and Nana Berchie.

Isaac Amoako and his teammates, Eric Donkor, Obed Owusu and Frank Sarfo Gyamfi couldn’t hide their gratitude to God. “We are getting well by God’s grace. I was having neck pains aside some wounds but I can see improvement. With time, I will fully recover” said Amoako.

Sarfo Gyamfi also made similar remarks. “I wasn’t asleep at the time of the accident. I saw everything live. It’s God who saved us. We owe much to him. Our supporters should continue praying for us to get over this nightmarish experience” he said.

Striker, Obed Owusu said they were yet to fully recover from the emotional trauma they went through. He however applauded the general public for the love they shown to the team that, saying their support would positively impact on their recovery.

Eric Donkor also expressed optimism that Kotoko would bounce back. He was happy with the conditions of the accident victims and said all of them would return in good shape with time.
