Asante Kotoko complain Ghana FA fine too harsh

Asante Kotoko are calling for a reduction in the fine handed them by the Ghana Football Association's Disciplinary Committee.

The defending league champions have been fined Ghc6,000 for misconduct after pleading guilty to two charges of misconduct when their fans threw water sachets and bottles onto the tracks of the stadium after the final whistle of their game with Heart of Lions.

The fans also physically assaulted match officials after the game.

The club’s team manager who was found guilty on two counts of misconduct after physically assaulting a match official and insulting the match officials during halftime of Kotoko’s league match against Lions was fined Ghc8,000 (US$ 2857).

The operations manager of the club, George Kennedy, says the fine is too much, therefore, the club will appeal for a reduction.

“We remorsefully admit the offense, but the fine is too much,” he told Hello FM.

“We would appeal for it to be reduced.”

Asante Kotoko are leaders of the Ghana Premier League with 51 points.
