Following Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s disappointing 1-0 loss to Obuasi Ashanti Gold on Sunday afternoon in the Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition, head coach for the Porcupine Warriors, Charles Kwabena Akonnor has conceded that his side lacked quality to on the day.
The Reds fell short to a well determined Miners side that defended very well to ensure they kept their opponent at bay on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
Speaking to GTV after the game, Coach CK Akonnor shared that his side has seen a dip in form and are not up there in terms of doing the right things on the pit at the right time. According to him, their inability to fight caused them to lose the match.
“We still lack the ability to fight. The ability to play an attacking game. We were doing it before but we have a little bit of dip in the way we play, the approach, and from that point of view for me we have to improve and that is what has caused us. In the second half we sort of put a little bit of pressure on them but we were not clever on certain areas of the game and it caused us”, Coach Akonnor said.
He continued, “We were not aggressive enough, we were not creating a lot of chances, the ability to go forward and give passes leading to goal scoring opportunities was not there and we lacked that understanding and we need to quickly improve upon that or else it will be a bit of a problem for us”.
Up next for the Porcupine Warriors, they will be hosting Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. They will need to win at all cost if they really want to make it to the next stage of the NC Special Competition.
