AshGold 1, Sportive 0

AshGold managed with a slim 1-0 win over a well-drilled side Tema based Real Sportive at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Sunday 30th October 2005. The visitors exhibited great skills and threatened AshGold with beautiful inter-positional passes and long balls. AshGold were in haste to open the score line to appease their numerous fans that had always registered their disappointments over the poor performance of the playing body bringing about the resignations of both the CEO and the head coach of the club.

With a tall order ahead of AshGold players, the quickly re-organized themselves and bombarded Sportive goal area with powerful bullets but kudos to the impregnable defenders of the visitors who stood tall to most of the attacks.

AshGold effected their substitution in the 20th minute when Joseph Jackson took over from injured Alfred Arthur. In the 24th and 26th minutes Victor Aryiirey and Opoku Agyemang were respectively booked for foul plays.

AshGold nearly found the net in the 41st minute when Tony Baffoe?s re-bounce shot was however blocked by Samuel Enzemaba with goalkeeper Laud Quartey completely beaten.

Solomon Opoku replaced Shaibu Yakubu in the early part of the second half and it was no surprise that Opoku?s in-swinger was handled by a defender of Sported for the referee to whistle for a penalty. Osei Kuffour this time cleverly placed the ball at the wrong side of the goalie of the visitors for the first goal.

After the goal AshGold surged more men upfront with Richard Awuah posing problems for the defenders of Sportive. AshGold seized the midfield that was manned by Kwaku Sarpong and Nasir Lamine, dictated the pace with accurate passes and beautiful ball control.

Osei Kuffour in the 55th minute squandered a glorious chance when with only the goalie to beat his lob was saved by the Laud Quartey to the disappointment of the home fans. Sportive however lifted their game and mounted several scary attacks but kudos to the solid denfence of AshGold comprising of Issahaku Zakari, Joseph Jackson, Tony Baffoe and skipper Kofi Amoako who was adjudged the best player of the match.

In the 71st minute deadly striker Valentine Atem replaced Kwaku Sarpong but the changes could not yield any results until the referee?s whistle was blown.
