AshantiGold coach Bashiru Hayford is adamant his title-chasing side need a point in their next game to be confident of wrapping up the season as champions.

The Miners came from behind to beat Medeama 2-1 at home to open a three-point lead following second-placed Aduana Stars’ one all home draw with Great Olympics on match day 27 of the First Capital Plus Premier League (FCPPL).

The FCPPL has reached the stage where title chasers and relegation battling teams draw out their calculators and make permutations of their chances as an exciting season nears an end. Hayford is not left out as he pegs his side as being 80% close to the title in his third season with the Miners.

”I can mathematically tell anybody who is good at it [calculations] and can attest to it that we are about 80% close to winning the title,” he said after Ivorian forward Didier Kore came on as a first half substitute [on the half-hour mark] to bag a brace in Sunday’s win over Medeama.

”If Olympics have been able to draw [at Aduana], it means we are leading by three points – and that is just one match. We have three matches left, two away against Berekum Chelsea and Olympics and one home game [to WAFA] in between.”

AshGold are gradually stepping close to end a 22-year wait to feel the Ghana league trophy again but have a tricky test ahead in their next trip. They travel to the middle belt of the country to face third placed Berekum Chelsea who now look out of place in the title race.

With the expectation that close, contenders Aduana could drop further points in their next game – away at relegation-battling Heart of Lions, the 2008 league winners [with Kotoko] believes his side need just a point when they travel to face Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on match day 28 next weekend before returning to host and beat WAFA in a penultimate fixture.

“We need to and will make sure to go to Berekum Chelsea and pick a point so that the last match [with Great Olympics] will be a formality then come back at home and win,” Hayford stated from his permutations.

Aduana equally have quite a daunting battle to end the season. They are scheduled to host another side with relegation staring at the face in New Edubiase United after their trip to Kpando. The Fire club will culminate their season at 'hostile' grounds, the Baba Yara Stadium against Asante Kotoko.
