Ashanti Gold CEO Kudjo Fianoo says his side is ready for this year’s CAF Champions League competition.
The Miners will be Ghana’s sole representative in Africa’s inter-Club competition this term after winning the Ghana Premier League last season.
AshGold ended their 19-year-old Premier League trophy drought after dethroning regional rivals Asante Kotoko to clinch the domestic top-flight.
The Obuasi-based Club have been paired with Algerian side MC Bejaia in the preliminary round of the competition.
Kudjo Fianoo is optimistic about his side’s chances in this year’s CAF Champions League.
‘’ The players are already in camp preparing for the competition and the management is also working tirelessly to make a big impact in the Champions League”, The former GFA Executive Committee member told an Accra-based television station UTV.
‘’Currently, a lot of the players in the team had never tasted this competition before so the technical team headed by Coach Bashir are working to prepare them mentally and physically before the competition kickoff ’’
‘’We have bought some quality players like Fuseinu Nuhu and Alhassan Nuhu from Edubiase, Hudu Yakubu, Dauda Mohammed and Alfred Nelson from Liberty Professionals so the supporters should come on board to rally behind the team’’
Ashanti Gold last made an appearance in the CAF Champions League in 1997 where they lost in the finals to Moroccan Club Raja Casablanca on penalties.
The team is currently preparing for the upcoming GHALCA G6 tournament in Sekondi.
